アフリカのトルマリン（African tourmalines）

アフリカ各地のトルマリン(African tourmalines) 0.89 - 3.85ct

　近年アフリカ各地から素晴らしくきれいなトルマリンが続々と報告されています。
最近入手した新産地のトルマリンをまとめてみました。

ナイジェリアのトルマリン (Nigerian tourmalines)

　ナイジェリアは 2008 年末から中央部、ジョス高原のケフィの郊外から、さらに 2009 年半ばに南西部イバダンの近くのオヨ渓谷から、いずれも素晴らしく透明度の高いトルマリンンの新しい鉱床が発見され、ルースが市場に続々と姿を現し始めました。
　濃い紫を帯びたピンクの二つの石は写真では包有物が目立ちますがこれは数十倍に拡大されているためです。
　肉眼では全く気になりません。宝飾用としては勿論のこと、コレクションとしても充分に美しいルースです。

New discoveries of fine troumalines happened since end 2008 till mid 2009 in Nigeria. One was in the suburb of the town of Keffi in Jos Plateau, Central Nigeria, followed by Oyo Valley near Ibadan, South East Nigeria. Both deposits produce exceptionally transparent tourmaline crystals with pleasing pastel colors. Saturated purplish pink stones of the photo are certainly from Oyo Valley for their color characteristics. Inclusions seen on magnified photo is practically not visible with naked -eye in actual size.

ナミビアのトルマリン（Namibian tourmaline）

		ナミビアの中央部には無数のペグマタイトがあり、トパーズ、緑柱石等と共に数箇所の鉱山からパステルカラーのトルマリンの産出が報告されています。 　しかし世界で最も乾燥した無人の砂漠地帯での商業的な採掘は行われず、たまたま晶洞や漂砂鉱床で発見された結晶がカットされて散発的に市場に姿を見せるのみです。 　1990年代初めにはウサコスに近いノイ・シュヴァーベンの漂砂鉱床から素晴らしく魅惑的な青ー緑色のトルマリンが発見されて話題になりました。　写真の2.13ctの石は、正確な産地は不明ですが、色合いからはオマピョ鉱山産かと思われます。 　Numerous pegmatite deposits in the central regions of Namibia are known to produce topaz, beryl and tourmalines of pastel colors. However, there are no organized commercial mining, due to the driest climate in inhabited desert. Sporadical discoveries of gem troumalines are cut and appears in the market, such as the case of superb blue-green tourmalines found in the alluvial deposit of Neu Schwaben, near Usakos in early 1990's.

ザンビアのカナリア･トルマリン（Canary tourmaline from Zambia）

			2000年初めに姿を現したカナリア･トルマリンと呼ばれる鮮やかな黄色のトルマリンは生産の大半が日本の宝飾市場に吸収されていました。 　最近コレクター市場にも手頃な値段で姿を見せるようになり、ようやく入手できました。 　黄色は最大で9%を越える異常に高い濃度のマンガン成分のためですが、鮮やかな色合いは淡褐色の石を550℃で2時間ほど加熱して得られます。 　不透明なショールの内部に含まれる透明な部分だけがカットされます。 　最大では50カラットのルースが取れましたが、一般に1カラット以下の小さなルースが殆どです。

Near Lundazi, Eastern Zambia

　In early 2000', vivid yellow tourmaline, called "Canary tourmaline" appeared in gem trade, which are enthusiatically appreciated in Japanese market. Striking yellow is obtained from pale orange-brown rough heated at 550℃ for about two hours. Transparent gemmy rough is included in a brecciated black and brown troumaline rough, resulting extremely little yield about 5-10%. So far most of faceted stones range less than 1 carat.

タンザニアのクローム・トルマリン（Tanzanian chrome tourmaline）

		エメラルドのような輝かしい緑色のトルマリンが主にタンザニアからごく少量採れます。 　クロムとヴァナジウムによる発色の、宝石質のトルマリンとしては珍しいドラヴァイトです。 　大半が1カラット未満と小さいのですが、鮮やかな色合いのために存在感があります。 　写真の石はクローム・トルマリンには珍しくやや淡い色合いで全く包有物を含まず透明度が素晴らしく高く、ガラスかと疑ったほどでした。 　屈折率を計ると1.639と紛れも無くトルマリンなので一安心です。 　Emerald-like green tourmaline is mainly recovered from Tanzania. This chrome-troumaline is a rare gemmy dravite specy, colored by chrome and vanadium. Most of chrome troumaline is as small as less than one carat, yet quite appealing for it's vivid color. The 1.31ct stone of the photograph is exceptionaly clean but slightly paler color. R.I. of 1.639 shows this stone not glass immitation but a genuine tourmaline.

モザンビークのトルマリン（Mozambique tourmalines）

　 　2005年に輝かしいパライバ型のトルマリンがモザンビークにも産出することが公になりました。
実は2001年に発見されていたのですが、その大半がブラジル経由でパライバ産として市場に流通していたことが近年明らかになりました。
　現在では質、量共にモザンビークがパライバ･トルマリンの最大の生産国といってよいでしょう。
そのため一時と比べるとモザンビーク産のそれは大幅に値下がりし、色の淡いものや、包有物の多い石は、ごく普通のトルマリン並みの値段になって来ています。
　写真の3個の紫のトルマリンはいずれも微量の銅とマンガンを３％含むパライバ型です。
これらの多くは加熱処理により高値で売れる青いパライバ･トルマリンへと変わるのですが、何故か手を加えずに市場に出ている紫の石をよく見かけます。。

　In 2005, gem trade knew that paraiba-type tourmalin was mined in Mozambique. It was revealed, that paraiba-type troumaline had been discovered in 2001, but most of them were distributed through Brazil, as Paraiba origine ones. Today, Mozambique is the largest producer of paraiba/tourmaline both by volume and by quality. Now, paraiba tourmaline is available abundant and price level has dropped significantly. Pale color stone and heavily included paraiba tourmalines are priced as normal tourmaline.
　Three purple stones are paraiba type with minor copper and over 3% of manganese impurity. Most of them turns blue by heat treatment to sell higher price as paraiba tourmaline. However, not few purple stones are sold without heat treatment.
