正長石 (Orthoclase)
結晶標本なら世界中のペグマタイトにいくらでもある正長石ですが、宝石質となるとマダガスカルのイトロンガイが殆ど世界で唯一の産地でした。
シベリア・ウダチャからは半透明の結晶が採れるので、ひょっとしたら宝石質もあるのではないかと期待していましたが、ついに5.25ctのルースを見つけました。
マダガスカル産のような金色ではなく、やや淡い褐色を帯びた灰色でトルコ産のディアスポールを偲ばる強い煌きを示します。
Orthoclase is one of the most common mineral specimen in pegmatite veins everywhere in the world. Itrongay, Madagascar is, however the only one locality to produce transparent gem quality orthoclase crystal. Some orthoclase specimen from Udacha, Siberia produced well formed semi-transparent crystal, which suggested the possibility of gemmy one. Finally my expectation was realized with this pale tan colored facetted stone. This 6.25 carat tan color reminds me of Diaspore from Turkey for it's brilliance.正長石(Orthoclase)

灰曹長石（Oligoclace）
灰曹長石は斜長石族の中で曹長石成分が90-70%、
灰長石成分が10-30％と曹長石に限りなく近い種類です。
他の斜長石族の鉱物とは見た目では全く区別が付かないためでしょう、灰曹長石の結晶標本として見かけることはまずありません。
大変稀なカット石ですが、カッターがどうしてこれを灰曹長石と識別できたのか不思議です。
しかし屈折率と比重とを計ってみるとそれぞれ ：
2.6476/2.6750、1.530-550と間違いなくオリゴクレースの範疇に入っています。4.17ct 11.2x8.7mm

TanzaniaWe seldom have an occasion to encounter oligoclase (Albite:90-70%/Anorthite:10-300%) feldspar in the market, even in literatures, neither. Facetted oligoclase is the rarest among feldspar group. I wonder how cutters could afford to identify these stones as oligoclases. Both refractive index (2.6476/2.6750) and specific gravity ( 1.530-550) proved that they are certainly oligoclase.

銅箔を含みサンストーンと呼ばれるオレゴン州の曹灰長石が３種。
最初のマーキーズカットはメキシコ等他の産地では普通ですがオレゴン産としては初耳の金色です。
詳細な産地は不明ですが、おそらくポンデローサかプラシュ産。
全く銅箔を含まないタイプも採れるということでしょう。
次の緑色がかかった多色のものはフレデリック･ポー博士のコレクションからのものです。
やや大きめの包有物が目立つため宝石としては価値が低くなります。
しかしオレゴン産のサンストーンで緑色を帯びたものは大変珍しく標本としては価値があります。
ペア・カットの多色の石はプラッシュ産としてはごく一般的なサンストーンです。
濃い朱色のものが最も市場価値が高いのですが、このような多色のものも味わい深い美しさを秘めています。
Labradorites from Oregon, U.S.A. ;
Golden marquise cut stone is, although common in other locality, such as Mexico, the first time I encountered from Oregon, probably from Plush or Ponderosa.
Greenish stone is from ex-Frederick Pough collection. Due to noisy inclusion, this stone is less valuable for jewellery use, but is important as specimen. Green sunstone from Oregon is quite rare.
Pear cut multi-colored stone is not unusual from Plush and is offered at affordable price level compared with highly prized deep red color one. However, I personally feel this multi color sunstone is the most attractive among all gemstone colors.
