July 2008 :　ブラジル・サンタ・ローザ鉱山のトルマリン

　本格的に宝石コレクションを始めたきっかけはロンドンの自然史博物館の宝石ホールの展示を見たことでした。
　世界の宝石結晶とその結晶からカットした宝石とが数多く展示されていました。
　これこそは究極の宝石コレクションに他ならない、と大いに感銘を受けたものです。
ところが実際にコレクションを始めるとそれは途方も無く困難なことであることを思い知らされました。
　第一に、特定の鉱山産の宝石質の結晶が常に安定して採れるわけではありません。多くの場合、結晶標本とカットされた宝石とは発見と採掘されてからしばらくの間市場に出回るのみです。
　次に結晶とルースとは全く異なる経路で市場に流れますから、時間が経つにつれ両者を一緒に入手する機会は限りなく少なくなります。
　一般に宝石のルースは産地はおろか、産出国さえ明記されること無く売買されます。特にトルマリンはパライバ以外は産地を云々されることはまずありません。
　写真の二色のトルマリン・ルースはかなりの亀裂と包有物とで透明感に欠け、色合いも見映えがしません。そのためでしょう、売れ残ってカラット当たり5ドルと格安にて処分セールに出ていたものをアメリカのネット上で見かけました。
　普通ならいくら格安でも食指が動くような品ではありません。
けれどもこの色合いとインクルージョンには見覚えがありました。
　15年ほど昔にフランスにて入手したブラジル・ミナス・ジェライス州、サンタ・ローザ鉱山の結晶とそっくりだったからです。
　ブラジル産とのみ記されたこのルースと結晶とがサンタ・ローザ鉱山産から同じ時期に、恐らく同じ晶洞から採れた一群の結晶の一つとカットされた石とであることはほぼ間違いないと考えられます。
　長い年月を隔てて同じ鉱山産の結晶とルースとが再会を果たした稀なる出来事でありました。

　Once I visited the gemhall of Natural History Museum of London. The display of almost all faceted stones together with original gem crystals fascinated me and certainly determined the direction of my gem and gem crystal collection.
However, collection of faceted gemstones with gem crystals of same locality was found to be extremely difficult, soon.
First of all, gem cystals of one locality is often one time production particularly for pegmatite origine gems, in general.Furthermore, gem crystals and faceted stones are distributed through different channels. Most of faceted stones are traded without careful attentions of their locality origines and it is almost impposible to trace their origines.
　I saw vague colored faceted bi-color tourmaline with fissures and inclusions in the photo on internet dealer page of U.S.A. Although it is not an attractive stone despite super baigain offer price of US$5.00 per carat due to poor appearance, I noticed the terrible resemblance to a crystal of Santa Rosa Mine, that I obtained over 15 years ago in France. As shown in next photo, together with crystal, it is no doubt that they were collected from the same pegmatite pocket of Santa Rosa Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
　This is indeed a rare opportunity to acquire a faceted stone and gem crystal of the same locality (great probably from the same pocket), separately after long interval.
