インドのシリマナイト・キャッツ・アイ（Indian Sillimanite Cat's eye)

　珪線石は一般に繊維状の集合結晶として産出します。
したがってカボション・カットされた不透明な結晶はしばしば猫目石となります。
　淡青、淡黄、淡褐色の半透明のシリマナイト・キャッツ・アイは、極めて高価なクリソベリルに匹敵する美しい宝石となります。
　しかし値段はカラット当たり100円にもなりません。

　Sillimanite has a second name : Fibrolite for it's fibrous occurences to show cymophane effect when polished in cabochon.
Translucent sillimanite cat's-eye in pale blue, purple, yellow and brown are quite attractive as chrysoberyl cat's-eye.

マリの葡萄石　（Mali Prehnite）

　マスカット種の葡萄のような球状の産状を示すマリの葡萄石はカットするより、鉱物標本として保存する方が価値があります。
　残念なことにカットされてしまった7.2カラットの石は、しかしオーストラリアや英国産のそれと比べると透明度が高く、なかなか美しいものです。

　A grape-like Mali prehnite must be preserved as mineral specimen, rather than polished gemstone. A polished 7.20ct stone is, however, exceptionally transparent, compared with that from U.K. and Australian prehnites.

ジルコン（Zircon）

　内包物がやや多く、ファセット・カットに向かないのでカボションになってしまったジルコン。
　キャッツ・アイということですが、どう見ても猫目石には見えませんが、カボションにしては透明度が高いので強い光の下ではなかなか綺麗な輝きを見せてくれます。

　This 4.98 carat zircon is polished as cabochon for relatively heavy inclusions. Though presented as cat's-eye zircon, it is hardly difficult to acknowledge faint asterism.

アクアマリン・キャッツ・アイ（Aquamarine Cat's eye）

　濃い色合いのエメラルドは例外として、一般に淡い色合いの緑柱石には鮮明な猫目石効果が期待できません。
　2.22 カラットのアクアマリンも猫目石というにはうっすらと光の筋が見えるだけです。

　Except deep color emerald, relatively pale color beryl family do not show vivid cat's-eye effects. 2.22carat aquamarine shows faint cat's-eye when lit under strong penlight.

スカポライト・キャッツ・アイ（Scapolite Cat's eye）

　タンザニア産のこのスカポライト・キャッツ・アイは内部に微細な霞のような包有物を含み、曇りガラスのような見映えのしない石ですが、強い光の下では透明度の高い朱色のボディーに鮮明なキャッツ・アイが浮かび上がります。

　Tanznian scapolite cat's-eye has microscopic cloudy inclusions and is indeed a poor-looking tanslucent stone. But when illuminated under strong penlight, it turns out to show an attractive vermillion colored cat's-eye.

ハックマナイト（Hackmanite）

　近年アフガニスタン産ハックマナイトの結晶標本を良く見かけます。
　が宝石質となるとビルマ産のカボション級が大半です。
珍しさだけが取り得といっても良い宝石ですが、カラット当たり1万円と結構な高値です。
　写真のカボションは透明度の高いきれいな石ですが、むやみに高価ではありません。

　Almost all hackmanite crystal specimens come from Afghanistan, while polished cabochons are Burmese origine. Despite it's small size (normally around one carat), opaque mauve color, hackmanites are relatively expensive (over US$100 per carat) because of rarity.
