　 淡いピンクの方解石は産地不明ですが、恐らくメキシコ辺りと見当をつけています。
モース硬度が３と柔らかい上に完全な劈開性のためにカットが難しい方解石のルースにお目にかかることは稀です。
　さらにこれだけの大きさの透明なピンクは初めてです。方解石のピンクの発色は一般には二価のコバルトイオンの発色ですが、この朱色のようなピンクの場合は恐らく鉄イオンによると考えられます。

　Although locality is unknown, this pink calcite seems to be from Mexico, probably. Because of perfect cleavage and low Mohs hardness of 3, we rarely encounter faceted calcite. This is the first faceted pink calcite of considerable size, I have ever seen. In general, pink color in calcite is due to color center by Co²⁺, I estimate this 29ct stone is colored by iron ion.

　ハイアロフェーン　：(K,Ba)Al(Si,Al)₃O₈ はカリ長石のカリウムの一部がバリウムに置換された変種です。
したがって普通の長石よりは比重が10%程高くなります。
　比較的稀な鉱物で、主産地であるボスニア-ヘルツェゴヴィナのブソヴァカではアルプス型の熱水鉱床に10cmを越える結晶として発見されます。
　時に、小さいながら宝石質の結晶も採集されカットされます。

　Hyalophane： (K,Ba)Al(Si,Al)₃O₈ is a variation of orthoclase, which pottasium is partly substituted by barium. Therefore it has higher density than normal feldspar, by 10%. It is relatively rare mineral and at noted locality near Busovaca, Bosnia, hyalophane crystals up to 10cm across are found in Alpine-type veins, sometimes with transparent gemmy crystals.

　エレミア石が1999年にナミビア・クロス岬のマイル７２で発見され、かなりの量が出回ったことは世界の鉱物収集家にとって忘れがたい事件でありました。
　さらに2001年、同じナミビアのエロンゴ山のペグマタイトから淡青色の結晶がかなりの量、それも比較的手頃な値段で出回り、恐らくは全ての鉱物収集家の手に行き渡ったことでしょう。
　惜しむらくは結晶の大半は平均で1cmあるかないかの大きさでしたからカットされたルースには殆どお目にかかりませんでした。
　待つこと5年余り、ようやく0.55ctとそこそこの大きさの淡青色のルースを入手しました。
１カラットを越えるルースもあるにはあったのですが、カラット当たり1000ドルではとても手が出ません。
　コレクションとしては稀少な石は、何であれ持っていることが肝心と割り切るのみです。

　The discovery of jeremejevite at Mile 72 near Cape Cross, Namibia in 1999 was an memorable event for mineral collectors in the world. In 2001, there was another discovery at nearby pegmatite of Erongo Mtns., Namibia with considerable quantity of colorless to pale blue tranparent crystals at affordable price might have gratified all mineral collector's demands, except gem collectors, due to too small crystals to cut. Looking for the opportunity for more than 5 years, I finally encountered a piece of reasonable size at affordable price.

ウヴァイトードラヴァイト(Uvite-Dravite)

　以前入手したおなじモザンビーク産の褐色のドラヴァイトが手にとって見ると、実際には素晴らしい緑のパステル・カラーを見せる石でした。
　今回似たような石を見つけて入手しました。残念ながら褐色がやや強すぎて、美しいパステルカラーとまでは行きませんでしたが、しかし角度を変えると様々な色合いが見えて、あらためてドラヴァイトの真価を再認識しました。
　　同じくブラジル、ブルマード産のウヴァイトードラヴァイト。小さくインクルージョンも多めですが、何しろ滅多に採れない珍品には違いありませんから、あれば必ず手が出てしまいます。　　　

　Once I saw non-phenomenal brown Mozambique drivite on web shop to find the stone actualy has fascinating pastel green color. Again I saw the similar stone, which actualy is not so spectacular as the former one, yet I appreciate the vibrant colors seen from different viewing angle. The yellow stone is a rare uvite-dravite from Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. Although small and moderately included, I am unable to miss the opportunity to obtain such rarity.

ベスブ石（Vesuvianite)

　 イタリアのヴェスヴィオ火山から噴出した石灰岩塊中から最初に発見されたことで命名された鉱物です。
本場の結晶は暗褐色で多くの亀裂を含み、到底宝石としてカットできるものではありませんでした。
　カナダ、ケベック州のジェフリー鉱山は緑や紫の美しい結晶の産出で有名ですが、宝石質の透明なルースには程遠い品質でした。
　宝石質の透明なベスブ石は主にケニアとカナダ、ケベック州 Black Lake付近のLab(Lake Asbestos Bell)鉱山からの淡黄や緑の石が時々市場に現れるくらいでした。
　待つこと久しく、ようやくにしてイタリアの原産地とジェフリー鉱山からのルースに出会いました。

　The name derives from Mount Vesuvio, where vesuvianite is discovered in blocks of erupted limestone. Almost all crystals are too dark brown colored with fissures to cut. Jeffrey mine, Quebec, Canada produces perfect green( up to 180mm long) and purple(up to 70mm long) crystals but with heavy inclusions. So far faceted vesuvianites are rarely available from Kenyan brown stone and pale yellow to green one from Lab (Lake Asbestos Bell) mine, Quebec Canada. Awaiting for long time, I obtained faceted vesuvianites from original locality, Italia and Jeffrey mine, Canada at the same time.

ベニト石(Benitoite)

　世界で唯一のベニト石の鉱山がついに2005年に閉山となりました。
今後は一般向けのコレクション・パークとして有料で開放されるようです。
　したがって個人でベニト石の標本を発見する可能性が残されはしますが、しかしせいぜい結晶の破片を採集できれば幸運と言った程度でしょう。
　　1907年に新種の鉱物として発見され、ベニト郡にちなんで命名され、カリフォルニア州の宝石ともなったベニト石は他に世界の何ヶ所かで標本程度のサンプルが発見されたのみ、唯一カリフォルニアの鉱山にて宝石用と結晶標本用に細々と採掘が行われていました。
　しかし、凡そ1世紀に及ぶ採掘で得られたベニト石ルースは総量で4500カラット足らずでしかありません。
しかもその大半は0.2カラット程度の小さなものです。
　バリウムとチタンの珪酸塩という特異な組成で比重がダイアモンドより重いため、写真のように1カラットといってもごく小さな物です。
　1カラットを越えるルースとなると全部で500個程度しか採れませんでした。
高い屈折率による金属的な鋭い煌きと、やや沈んだ深い青を持つベニト石は結局一部のコレクターが知るのみ、似たような状況のレッド・ベリルやアウインと比べると、まったく商業ベースに乗らずに市場から姿を消すことになりました。
　このニュースを知り、20年前でカラット当たり1000ドル、現在でも1600ドルと超稀少石にしては異例の割安な水準ではありますが、しかし一介のコレクターとしては、なかなか手が出ない水準であった１カラット超の石をようやく入手しました。
　写真のようにかなりのインクルージョンがあります。そのため比較的割安だったし、今後は天文学的な水準に高騰でもすれば永久に手に入りませんからともかくは確保した次第です。
　隣のさらに小さく淡い色のクッション・カットの石は実は20年前に入手したもの。ツーソンショーを去る最後の日に残った100ドルで入手した記念の品です。

　
　Only one benitoite mine in the world, Benitoite Gem mine finally ceased the operation in 2005. The mine is said to reopen as collection park for general public, enabling scarece possibility to pick up a piece of cystals for lucky collectors.
Discovered as new mineral in 1907 and named after the locality of Benito County, California, the mine produced total, not more than 4500 carats of faceted stone (mostly 0.2 carata size and about 500 pieces exceeds one carat) and many mineral specimens during one century of mining operation. A peculiar composition of silicified barium and titanium, benitoite is heavier than diamond and even a rare one carat over stone is so small as shown in photo. Depite extreme rarity, benitoite with sharp metalic luster thanks to high refractive index with gloomy dark blue sahde, has never obtained commercial popularity as similar rare stone such as ; red beryl and haüyn, and is going to disappear from the market. This new of mine closure urged me to obtain the rare but relatively inexpensive (US$1600 today and was $1000, 20 years ago for one carat stone) compared with other rare stones, yet a hesitating level for a collector.
