　このサイトを初めて立ち上げた2001年にスピネルと言う宝石は究極の掘り出し物と述べました。
産出が非常に少なく一般に知られていないためです。
　ルビーと見間違うような深紅のスピネルこそ近年人気が高まって値段が高騰していますが、それでも無傷の透明度の高い最上級の石でもカラット当たり1000ドルから2000ドル程度です。
　同等の品質の無傷のルビーはほぼ皆無に近いといっても過言ではありませんが、稀にあると10～100倍となっても不思議ではありません。
　次いで魅力的なラズベリー色の最上品がせいぜい100ドルから300ドルでしかありません。
それ以外の写真のような色合いの石となると、もうカラット当たり10ドルから20ドルというのが国際的な相場です。

　ここに新たに登場したのは、そうした全く不人気な色合いのスピネルですが、いずれもごく最近見かけたオークションのサイトで信じられないほどの値段で出ていました。下段中央の1.39ctが100円、左の1.43ctが500円、右の1.97ctが700円と,冗談か或いは贋物なのかと目を
　疑いました。最も高価なのが上段左の 2.3ct の石ですが、それでも 2000円、次いで 1500円、1000円、1500円と、7個全部で 7000 円余りです。
　こんな値段なのに応札者が他に無く、全て最低価格で入手となりました。
　比重や屈折率等を計らなくとも、実物を見れば特有の光沢と内包物の特徴からいずれも紛れも無い天然のスピネルであることは一目瞭然です。
　さて、1.39ct の石は写真で明らかなように右側表面近くに包有物が二つ見えます。
1.43ct の石は無傷ですが全体のプロポーションが悪いためファセットの中央面が抜けて見える大きなウィンドーが出来ています。
　1.97ct の石にも無数の小さな気泡のある面がほぼ45度の角度で入り込んでいます。
一方上段の石にはこうした包有物が殆ど無く、色合いと濃淡により値差が生じています。
　とは言え、これらの7個の石は肉眼で見る限り大差は無く、いずれも宝石として十二分に美しいものです。
　したがってカラット当たり10倍近い値差は商品価値が反映されているためと考えられます。
それにしても100円とはどういうことでしょう　？
　　1.39ct のルースが採れる宝石質の結晶が採掘され、カットされ、日本に渡ってきて販売されるまでの手間と費用とを思えばあり得ないことです。
　写真は実物のほぼ10倍大に拡大されていますが、内包物等は殆ど気になりません。
したがって肉眼では全く気付かない程度のものです。
　いずれも宝飾品に加工すれば充分美しく魅力的な商品となるでしょう。

　When I started this sight in 2001, I described that spinel is a gemstone of ultimate bagain, simply bacause of it's scareceness and lack of recognition by general public. Recently, ruby-like red color spinel became popular and price is rising. The best spinel fetches US$1000 to 2000 per carat, while similar quality ruby with no inclusions and high transparency is hardly encountered in the nature but if there is, certainly fetches 10 to 100 times. Attractive raspbery color spinel fetched US$100 to 300 and all other colored spinels are priced US&10 to 20 only.

　Seven spinels here are that I recently obtained through net auction at unbelievably low prices. They are priced between US$1.00 to 20.00, yet there were no bidder, except myself. No use to check their genuiness. Colors, inclusions and lusters tell that these stones are nothing but natural spinels. Three stones in bottom law ; 1.39ct stone has two small inclusions near the surface. 1.43ct stone is polished with unbalanced proportion, that caused wide window. 1.97ct stone has numerous small bubbles lined along perpendicular plane inside the stone. Four stones on top law have no significant inclusions. So far relatively big price gap seems to reflect the marketing evaluation, reasonably. However, how a stone can be priced as low as US$1.00 for a stone, considering the cost, expenses and profit, since mining, cutting, transportation, etc., ?

　Stones in photograph are magnified by about 10 times and inclusions are barely visible, while it is hardly visible with naked eye.
Despite their unreasonably low evaluation, all stones certainly will serve as attractive articles if set for jewelry.
