再び蛍石の登場。素晴らしく大きなルースばかりですが、いずれもほんの僅かなインクルージョンや色むらがあるためか、カラット当たり1.5〜3ドルと破格の値段となれば、これを見逃せば一生後悔が残ると言うもの。
天然の結晶ですからインクルージョンや色むらがあるのは当然のこと、ともかくその大きさと微妙な色合いと透明度が素晴らしい逸品ばかりです。
何よりもカットが見事です。アメリカの稀少石カットの専門家集団、Coast to Coast Rarestone による技です。
モース硬度が低く劈開性が高く、最もカットが難しい蛍石や方解石はニューヨークはハンニバルに暮らす元物理学教師、アート・グラントが一手引き受けとのこと。
彼がカットを始めた1970年の頃は、蛍石や方解石など誰もカットしたがらなかったので、全て新人の彼に押し付けられたため、否応なしに難しい石の専門家になってしまったとのこと。
今ではモース硬度7以上の石は ”硬すぎ” て ”難しすぎる” のだそうです。
Again, new acquisition of museum-class huge transparent pretty fluorites. All are with minor inclusions or uneven coloration, which are quite normal for natural crystals, offered at super bargain prices of as low as US$1.50 to 3 per caratt. Above all, cutting skill is the most exciting points of these fluorites. All stones were facetted by " Mr. Fluorite" - Art Grant, who started cutting in 1970, supposedly to wind down from his job as a physical education teacher in Hannibal, New York. The problem was that people kept giving him "soft" stones, things like calcite, fluorite, and other tricky stones to cut, species that other cutters could'nt (would'nt) handle. Soon, that was all that he was cutting. He says that materials over the hardness of 7 are too "hard" for him to cut.

パキスタンの蛍石は淡いピンクや淡緑のパステル･カラーが特徴です。
左の 176 カラットはほぼ無色の地に淡い緑と一部ピンクが入っています。この大きさにしてインクルージョンが皆無。完璧な透明度が見事です。
右の 28 カラットは中央に気泡と錆のようなインクルージョンが目立ちますが見事なカットがそれを補って余りある美しさです。
Most of Pakistanese fluorite are pink or pale green pastel colored. 176ct stone is partially green and pink colored with no inclusion. It is transparent, indeed. 28ct pinkish orange stone has a minor stains at the bottom and several bubbles, which are easily ignored with superbly facetted shape.

メキシコには金や銀、鉛、亜鉛等の鉱山が数多くあります。蛍石はこれらの金属鉱山の脈石として普遍的に存在します。
とりわけ北部のチワワ州の鉱山群からは美しい結晶を産します。 ナイカのマラビジャス/ヒブラルタール鉱山は無色透明の蛍石が有名です。
写真の52カラットのナイカ産の蛍石は実は殆ど無色透明でほんの一部が淡い緑色を帯びていますが、カットによる光の反射で全体が淡緑を帯びて見えます。
57カラットの南アフリカ産の蛍石は見る角度によって殆ど無色透明から淡い緑褐色へと変化します。
多面の変形クッション・カットによる光の反射と屈折のために写真と実物では全く見え方が異なって見えます。
数十枚撮った中でこの写真が最も肉眼に近い色合いです。 この石が南アフリカのどの鉱山産かは不明です。
一般に紫色が多い南アフリカ産ですが不思議なことに宝石質の結晶は淡い緑褐色しか見かけません。
次のロシア産も正確な産地は分かりません。
このような均一に淡緑色の結晶はペグマタイト性の鉱脈に多いので、ウラル山脈産かと考えています。
写真では右下側の表面近くに気泡の列が亀裂のような細い1cmほどの長さの帯を成していますが、巧みなカットにより正面からは目立ちません。
かつてロマノフ王朝蔵だった歴史的なアクアマリンを偲ばせるロシアの蛍石です。
Mexico is rich with gold, silver, lead and zinc mines, which veins are rich too with fluorites. Particularly in the northern Chihuahua area is famous for fine fluorite crystals. Maravillas/Gibraltar mines in Naica is well-known for colorless transparent fluorite. 52ct facetted fluorite is almost colorless with partial green hue, which is reflected to entire stone, because of facetting.
57ct South African fluorite shows coloress to pale tan-green hue,depending on viewing angles. Due to reflections by fancy cushion-cut multi faces, photo shooting of this stone was among the most difficult experiences. The photo is relatively close to the actual stone after several tens of shots. Although South African fluorite is purple, in general, it is strange that I encounter only tan-green color one as facetted stone.
Blue-green 147ct Russian stone reminds me of the historical aquamarine that once Romanov family owned. Although exact locality of this stone is unknown, this pale blue-green color is that of typical pegmatite grown fluorite, probably in Ural Mtn. together with aquamarine crystal.
