アフリカのトルマリン（African troumalines) 1.28 - 1.81ct

モザンビークのパライバ型トルマリン（Paraiba type troumalines from Mozambique）

			銅とマンガンとを含み輝かしい青ー緑色のトルマリンが1989年にブラジル北東部のパライバ州にて発見されました。 　その後ナイジェリアやモザンビークからも同様のトルマリンが発見され、一般にパライバ型トルマリンとして流通するようになり原産地と呼称を巡る混乱が生じました。 　しかし2006年5月1日以降は銅ーマンガン発色の青ー緑のトルマリンは産地を問わずパライバ・トルマリンとすることが正式に決まりました。

　 一見アクアマリンのように見える1.81カラットの石は近年モザンビークのマヴコ近郊の漂砂鉱床に発見された銅とマンガンを含むパライバ・トルマリンです。
　この石には全国宝石学協会の鑑別書とEDXRF(蛍光Ｘ線分析)とが添付してあり、それによると CuO 0.22%、MnO 0.52% とを含む加熱処理の石とあります。
　本家のブラジル産が激減した現在ではこれだけの大きさと透明度を持つパライバ・トルマリンはカラット当たり数千ドルもの値が付けられる場合もありますが、ありふれたアクアマリンにしか見えない石にそれはやり過ぎというもの。
　この石はカラット当たり200ドル余りと全く妥当な水準です。
　もう一つの紫色のトルマリンも同様に、恐らく色合いから判断すると同じ産地の MnO 2% と CuO 0.1% 前後を含むトルマリンです。
　この色合いの石は加熱処理にてパライバと呼ばれる青ー緑になります。
　その方が遥かに高価で売れる筈ですが、何故か加熱処理されずに普通のエルバイトとして売られていました。

　Since first discovery of copper and manganese bearing bright blue-green tourmaline from Paraiba, Brazil in 1989, Nigeria and Mozambique joined as localities of same type and there has been confusions on nomenclature of so-called "Paraiba tourmaline". Since May 2006, however, world gem trade decided to call Cu-and Mn -bearing brightly colored blue-to-green tourmaline as Paraiba touramline, regardless their origine.

　An aquamarine-look 1.81 carat stone is from recent find at alluvial deposit near Mavco, Mozambique. The stone is with EDXRF Analysis and Identification Reports of GAAJ, which tells that a stone contains 0.22wt% CuO and 0.52wt% of MnO and is heat treated. 1.75% purple stone is from the same locality and is not heat treated. The color of this stone is attributed to contain about 2wt% MnO and 0.1-0.2wt% CuO. Curiously this stone was not heat treated, which generaly turns to far expensive blue-to-green "Paraiba tourmaline" after heat treatment.

タンザニアのトルマリン（Troumaline from Tanzania）

		金色に輝くこのトルマリンは東アフリカに特有のマンガン発色によるウヴァイトードラヴァイト系のトルマリンと言ってよいでしょう。スリランカやブラジル産と比べると恐らく鉄の不純物が少ないために殆ど褐色味を帯びない美しい金色を示します。 　This golden tourmaline from Tanzania is certianly a typical uvaite-drivite troumaline. Thanks to very low iron impurity, this stone shows clean golden color without brownish hue, commonly seen with high iron contents elbaites from Brazil and Srilanka.
